Therapy for men in California

You may be managing work, relationships and responsibilities just fine on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, disconnected or unsure of what needs to change.

Therapy gives you somewhere to slow things down, understand what’s really going on and talk honestly about the things that can be difficult to put into words.

You can be functioning and still struggling

A lot of men become very good at keeping things moving.

Work gets done. Responsibilities are handled. Other people can depend on you. From the outside, there may not even appear to be a problem.

But underneath that, things can feel very different.

You might notice yourself becoming more irritable. Your mind rarely switches off. Relationships feel harder than they used to. You withdraw instead of explaining what’s going on. Or maybe nothing is obviously “wrong” – you just don’t feel quite like yourself anymore.

You don’t need to wait until things fall apart before asking for support.

Being able to handle something doesn't mean you have to handle it alone

Many men learn early to solve problems independently, stay in control and keep difficult emotions to themselves.

Those qualities can be strengths. But they can also make it harder to recognize when something isn’t working – or to know what to do when the problem can’t simply be solved by trying harder.

Therapy creates a different kind of space.

You don’t have to perform, have the right answer or explain everything perfectly. Instead, we can get curious about what you’re experiencing, where certain patterns come from and what might need to change.

The goal isn’t to make you “more emotional.”

It’s to help you understand yourself well enough to have more choice in how you respond – to stress, relationships, difficult emotions and the challenges in your life.

Therapy can help you understand the patterns beneath the problem

Understand Yourself

Recognize the patterns, beliefs and experiences influencing how you think, respond and relate to others.

Handle Life Differently

Develop healthier ways of navigating stress and difficult emotions without constantly pushing through them.

Build Better Relationships

Communicate openly, understand your reactions and create healthier connections with the people around you.

Live More Intentionally

Understand what truly matters to you and make choices that feel more aligned with the life you want to build.

Therapy doesn't have to look the same for everyone

“What if I don't know what to talk about?”

That’s okay. You don’t need to arrive at therapy with a perfectly articulated problem – or even be particularly comfortable talking about your emotions. Sometimes therapy begins with something as simple as: “I don’t really know what’s wrong. I just know something doesn’t feel right.” That’s enough. My role isn’t to wait for you to figure everything out on your own. We’ll ask questions, notice patterns and make sense of what’s happening together.

Meet Dr. Jeff Kleinberg

I take an active, collaborative approach to therapy. I’ll listen carefully, but I won’t simply sit back and nod.

We’ll look at what’s happening now while also getting curious about the experiences and relationships that may have shaped how you respond to things today.

I draw from psychodynamic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness and relational approaches, adapting our work to the person sitting in front of me rather than forcing therapy into a single formula.

Some sessions may be practical. Others may go somewhere deeper.

There is room for difficult conversations, but also for curiosity, honesty and humor.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Men seek therapy for many reasons, including stress, relationships, major life changes, personal growth and wanting to better understand themselves. You don’t need to wait until something becomes a crisis.

That’s completely fine. Jeff will help you understand what to expect and you can take the process at a pace that feels manageable.

The fundamentals of good therapy don’t change, but working with a therapist experienced in men’s mental health can create space to explore experiences such as expectations around masculinity, emotional expression, relationships, stress, identity and asking for support.

Both options are available. Jeff offers individual online therapy as well as men’s group therapy, depending on the type of support and experience you’re looking for.

Yes. Individual therapy is provided virtually to clients located in California.

You don't have to have everything figured out before you start

Maybe you know exactly what you want to work on.
Maybe all you know is that something isn't working the way it used to.

Either is enough of a place to begin.
